Hamden Youth Lacrosse
Director: Keith Kaliszewski
8U - Bantam (Clinic format)
This seven week clinic will focus on developing lacrosse skills for young players. Station-based, age-appropriate drills will focus on scooping, catching, passing, shooting, and athletic movement. The clinic will take place on either Saturday or Sunday mornings during April and May. There will likely be a game against a similar program to cap off the season.
10U - Lightning (Travel)
12U - Junior (Travel)
14U - Senior (Travel)
Travel teams will practice 1-2 times per week and have 1-2 games on the weekends. There will be one tournament or jamboree scheduled for each team. All teams will participate in the CONNY tournament to end the season.
Lacrosse stick: Each player must have his own lacrosse stick. There are many varieties to choose from, and any reputable store specializing in lacrosse (such as Cheshire Sports Center) can recommend a suitable stick, given a player's age, size, and experience. More experienced players who wish to specialize in certain positions may purchase sticks specially tailored for that position. The most important of these are the defender's "longstick" and the goalie's stick. The beginner, however, should simply buy a generic stick of the standard length.
Helmet: Each player must have a lacrosse helmet. Helmets must be official, NOCSAE certified, lacrosse helmets (ice hockey helmets are no longer allowed).
Gloves, arms and shoulder padding: Each player must also have gloves, arm pads, and shoulder pads. Several varieties are available designed specifically for lacrosse.
Mouth guard: Every player must have a mouth guard. Be sure to get one that has a leash that can be attached to the helmet.
Athletic supporter/cup: Can be purchased at any sporting goods store
