Hamden Youth Lacrosse - Girls' Program
SPRING 2007 Coming SOON!!!
Welcome to HYL Girls′ Youth Lacrosse!
- Teams: Although numbers are currently a bit low, we hope to have one Bantam (2nd/3rd/4th grade), two Junior (5th/6th grade), and two Senior (7th/8th grade) teams. Player evaluations at the beginning of the season will be used to place girls on the Junior and Senior teams.
- Commitment: Instead of "A" and "B" teams, we refer to the two levels of Junior and Senior teams as "Green" and "Gold," respectively. The level of commitment that we expect is different for each:
-
Bantam and Gold teams: no penalty for practices or games missed.
-
Green teams: at least equal priority must be given to lacrosse as to other sports. For example, if there are 2 conflicts per week, at least 1 should be resolved in favor of lacrosse.
- Practices: Weather permitting, we will observe the following practice schedule:

Player evaluations for the Juniors and Seniors will take place at the second and third practices, whenever that might be (indoor or out). Evaluations for each team will be conducted by qualified personnel who do not have children in the program. If your daughter will miss an evaluation, please inform the Program Director as soon as possible.
- Games: Games begin the weekend of April 9/10. Most games are on Sundays, but some are on Saturdays and occasionally on a weekday. Each team is also scheduled to attend two jamborees. The final schedule for each team will be handed out after evaluations.
- Opening Day Festivities: This event will be held on Sunday April 2, 12-2pm on the HHS turf. All players should attend as if it were a game: uniforms, stick, goggles, etc. After the opening ceremonies we may run some small games or clinics for fun.
- Equipment: You will need the following equipment, if you don′t have it already:
- Girls′ lacrosse stick. We recommend going to a specialty store (such as Cheshire Sports), and get a modern girls′ stick with a constricted throat and an off-set head.
- Eye protection. We recommend buying goggles having a "wire cage" (such as the Cascade Iris), rather than clear plastic.
- Mouth guard. Required for both practices and games.Rubber cleats, water bottle, and appropriate clothing are strongly recommended, but not required. Girls′ lacrosse gloves, equipment bag, and other accessories are all optional.
- Volunteering. If you would like to assist in coaching or team management, please contact your head coach once you know which team your daughter is on. We can always use the help!
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Laura Kennedy. Also see www.hamdenlacrosse.org for news and announcements about HYL.
