Ever think about volunteering?

Here is just a sample of the many opportunities for HYL members to step up for the upcoming season to help provide the best possible lacrosse experience for the kids.

Please see any Board Member to learn more about these and other opportunities

Dom Sannino has moved into the VP role.  After many years serving as a coach and board member, most recently as the boys program director, Dom will take over the top operations post.  In addition to helping on the field when he can, Dom will oversee the boys' and girls' programs, manage equipment and uniforms, and work as liaison to the town, managing field usage and general operations.

Jacqueline Sannino has joined the board as Treasurer.  Most grateful for this is Bob Giaquinto who's been filling the roles of president and treasurer for two years.

After many years of on the field service, Tom Geirin and Paul Cartier have expanded their roles with HYL.  Tom will continue to coach, but will also be joining the board of directors as the Boys' Program Director.  Tireless Tom also serves as CONNY Rep and Compliance Czar for coaches' certifications.

Paul Cartier has not only taken our website to the next level as webmaster, but has joined the board as Registrar.  In addition to all this work, Paul will continue working on the field as well.  Many thanks to Tom and Paul for their extensive contributions year after year.

Returning to the program this year is one of the founding members of HYL.  Paul Hudak, Head Coach of Girls' Lacrosse for Hamden High School, has rejoined the HYL board as Girls' Program Director.  We are lucky and grateful to have him back.

Some of the areas where we can still use help include (but are not limited to) the following:

Referee Coordinator - report to Program Director
  • Recruits refs and ensures they are properly trained
  • Maintains master game schedule for all teams
  • Assigns refs and handles cancellations, etc.
  • Ensures refs are paid promptly and correctly

Public Relations Coordinator - report to Secretary

  • Collects scores and team stats weekly
  • Organizes data into a weekly newspaper article
  • Submits the article to the Hamden Chronicle each week
  • Enters team results on the website
  • Acts as liaison on other PR matters

Banquet Chairman - Report to President

  • Secure facility
  • Plan menus and manage costs
  • Arrange for DJ, audio/visual, decorations
  • Manage numbers and collect money

Fundraising Chairman - Report to Treasurer

  • Secure sponsors
  • Offer advertising on our website, mention in the newspaper, and a plaque
  • Manage other fundraising efforts

And, of course, Coaches, Coaches, Coaches!  The single greatest obstacle to the growth of HYL is a lack of coaches.  You don't need to have played or coached lacrosse to be able to help.  We will train you.  We'd love the help in any division, but a great way to give back is to get started as an assistant when your child is a bantam.  Take some training, attend clinics, and stay on the field.  Move up with your child and eventually you may have your own team.  There's no question it's a ton of work, but it can be extremely rewarding for you, you'd be making a huge contribution to the sport and the kids, and we will provide all the help we can.
